Grow Up!

Titus 2:7-8 NAU in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity (moral soundness/integrity) in doctrine, dignified (proper behavior), sound in speech(speak healthy words) which is beyond reproach (can’t be criticized) , so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.

Paul had left Titus in Crete to set up church leadership (1:5). The group of the circumcision faithfully followed Paul around to “correct” his converts. This group would bring in false teaching into the church (1:10-11). Spiritually immature Christians were starting to follow man’s legalistic teaching and Jewish myths (1:14). Sadly the spiritually mature Christians were not teaching the younger solid biblical truths and leading them by example, like they should have.Sound biblical doctrine was no longer being taught in this church.

Unfortunately, across America this same thing is happening. Churches are watering down the gospel to be less offensive to the church hopper and unsaved. Few are studying the Bible on their own. Spiritually mature men and women needs to step up and show the younger (by example) how to study the Bible. This needs to be done so they will be biblically sound in their teaching and so they will not be blown around by every wind of doctrine. (Eph 4:14)

It is time to grow up in Christ. A six month old baby sucking on a bottle is cute. What about when that baby turns the age of 5,10, 25, 50? Would that be cute? Absolutely not! You would question why they are not growing properly. This is exactly what many “Christians” are doing these days. They get saved but there is no spiritual growth. Churches across America are filled with 20/30/50 year old babies.

It is time to grow up!

Ephesians 4:14-16 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.

  1. Yeah. Growing up spiritually definitely means having a Christ-like attitude, being patient, others-centered, etc. And it also means stepping up to the plate.

Babies don’t do anything for anyone else…they just open their mouths and take a bottle whenever anyone gives it to them. Too many Christians live like this. I wish that those who should be leaders would step up and advance God’s kingdom.

  2. “Churches are watering down the gospel to be less offensive to the church hopper and unsaved.” – that is what my dad says when he preaches. He says the excat things you say. That the church needs to grow up and help “newbie” Christians to grow by example.

  3. Many churches are so concerned with getting numbers they water down the gospel and/or entertain people with a “concert”. I rather be part of a movement that God is putting together. Looking at history (even pentecost), every true revival that God sent had many saved by preaching His word without shame.

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the POWER of God for SALVATION to everyone who believes…

The gospel has the dynamite power to save EVERYONE who believes. When the gospel is watered down it losses it’s power.

    I’ll stop now.
