Today, football fans from around the world will take time out of their busy schedules to sit down with a bag of chips and their favorite beverage to watch the Super Bowl. Even people who are not a big football fan will watch today, even if their only motive is to watch the commercials. It is amazing to me that one event can unite so many people. The excitement, passion, and the volume that comes from such an event is incredible.
When I study worship in the Bible, this is what I see; excitement, passion, and volume. Sadly though in most churches, worship is dry, dull, and sometimes pathetic. What has happened to the church when it comes to worship????????? I don’t know what happened, but I know that the “church” has dropped the ball somewhere in the past with their teachings about worship. I would love to see the same excitement displayed at corporate worship, that is shown at a super bowl party. Maybe if that much excitement was displayed, it might make the non-believers and carnal Christians raise an eyebrow, wondering what they are missing.
As humans, we are made to worship. Everyone worships something. “Worship” is an old word (worth ship) meaning to ascribe worth to something. What ever controls your thought process, occupies your time, or what you deem as most important (good or bad) is what you worship.
Yes, I’ll watch the game. I am not trying to riot against a great American past time. I just would love to see the sleeping church arise to the place where true worshippers worship God in spirit and truth The Father is seeking this type of worshipper (john 4:23-24).
Be wise in what you deem most important in your life.
Revelation 19:1-13 After these things I heard something like a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, “Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God; …….. Then I heard something like the voice of a great multitude and like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, saying, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns. ……….The one they worshipped,… His name is called The Word of God (Jesus).
